CITIES OF THE FUTURE
The seemingly sequential global shocks the world has endured in the last few years have prompted society to consider the future – and risk - in an entirely different light.
What emerged from COVID-19’s disruption was remarkable. People rallied together to manage and contain the virus at a rate previously considered inconceivable.
But the pandemic, while unprecedented to us, was a moment in time, history merely repeating itself with different players in a new context. This congenial spirit has been echoed in all of the seismic challenges humanity has borne throughout time, and the cities we live in have provided the backdrop to both the suffering and recovery, evolving each time as we learn to perpetuate our survival.
But where are we now? The immediate threat of COVID-19 may have subsided, but how do we deal with longer-term perils that slowly erode the planet? What role will our cities play in fostering innovation and the consequent economic growth necessary to meet these challenges? These questions prompted Gallagher to engage with Fitch Solutions on a research journey which resulted in the Cities of the Future Series you are now embarking upon.
